Elvira E. Bass

Elvira Ressler was born on June 4, 1911, in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, to Charles C. and Olive Pearl (Stouffer) Ressler. She married Rev. Solomon A. Bass on September 9, 1934, and assisted her husband as he served as senior pastor of various United Methodist churches including Detroit Lakes, Cleveland Avenue, Waseca: Faith, Stewartville and Sumner Center before his retirement in 1976. He also served churches in Ohio. Rev. Solomon Bass died on April 26, 1979. Mrs. Bass resided at Copeland Oaks before moving to Lebanon, Tennessee. She became a member of the Damascus United Methodist Church in 1995. Elvira Bass died three months short of her 100th birthday on Sunday, March 6, 2011, in Mt. Juliet Health Care in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. Services were held on March 11 at the United Methodist Church of Damascus, Ohio, with the Rev. Robert Namey officiating. Burial was in the Grandview Cemetery in Salem, Ohio. At the time of her death Elvira was survived by her children, Barry C. (Carrie) of Walnut, California, J. Karen Bass of Lebanon, Tennessee, and Charles A. (Judy) of Tucson, Arizona., a sister, Mary Frances Breit of Salem, and all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
