Dorothy ?Dottie? T. Bessette (Picture included)
Dorothy "Dottie" T. Bessette, 87, passed away on April 20, 2015 at Wingate at South Hadley. She was born in Rockville, CT on May 11, 1927 and was lovingly raised by her grandparents, Simon and Ida Butler. In 1960, Dorothy married the love of her life, Donald Bessette, and moved to Granby where they called home and raised their family. Dorothy was a graduate of Baypath Junior College. She was a faithful communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. She worked as a bookkeeper for the American Red Cross and Turner Electric. Dorothy was an avid bingo player, reader and enjoyed trips to Foxwoods. She volunteered for the Granby Senior Center, American Legion Auxiliary in Granby and Chicopee and was a member of the Red Hat Club and Granby Women's Club. She will be forever missed by her husband Donald along with their son, Jeffrey Bessette and his finance Anita Speck of Putnam, CT and grandchildren, Emily and Alex. Besides her grandparents, she was predeceased by her son Michael in 2002. Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 23 with a calling hour from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby. Burial will follow in West Cemetery. The family acknowledges with grateful appreciation the loving care provided to Dorothy by her caregiver Cheryl Yargeau and the staff at Wingate at South Hadley.
