Splinters From The Tree March 2007
Thanks to all of the following who made donations this month: 9 individuals donating a total of $675. Section 1 - Welcome Results from a half dozen DNA tests came back from the lab this month and many of these families will be highlighted below. I will be presenting the Bassett Family DNA project at a meeting of the Fox Valley Genealogical Society on April 12, 2007 in Naperville, Illinois for anyone living in the Chicago area. The Bassett DNA project is now approaching 200 members. If you have been thinking about joining and have any questions, send me a note at the e-mail address at the end of the newsletter. If you still have a kit outstanding (10 kits are still out), please remember to follow up and send the kit in when you get a chance. * * * * * Section 2 - Bassett Family Reunion to be held August 3-5, 2007 in Boston, Massachusetts I have begun a tentative schedule for the Bassett family reunion to be held in Boston this summer on Friday, August 3, 2007 through Sunday August 5, 2007. This schedule is subject to change. I am looking for someone interested in leading a short non-denominational church service on Sunday morning. I am also looking for someone that can organize and take reservations for a group dinner on Saturday night. Is there anyone that would like to make a presentation on their Bassett Family line? Please let me know the subject and the approximate length of your presentation if you are interested in speaking. Friday, August 3, 2007 Saturday, August 4, 2007 Sunday, August 5, 2007 * * * * * Section 3 -Updates to the Bassett Family website A new section has been added to the website showing a family tree of male descendants of William Bassett of Plymouth who arrived in America on the Fortune in 1621. There is a link to show all males descendants of each of his sons. This is still a work in process and not all of the male Bassetts have been included yet. Also shown on this chart are all participants from this family that have taken part in DNA testing. If you are a male Bassett belonging to this family and don't see a DNA project participant in your section of the tree, please consider joining. This is a sneak preview of exciting things to come for the website. We hope to add similar screen for other major family groups as time permits.
